DEYALSINGH ONLY NOW REALISE THAT ST ANN’S MENTAL HOSPITAL IS 117 YEARS OLD

People are saying that if the police did not raid The Transformed Life Ministry Rehabilitation Centre in Arouca recently and rescued 69 patients, some mentally ill, Health Minister Terrence “Denialsingh” Deyalsingh would have never spoken about the removal of the St Ann’s Psychiatric Hospital to a new “centrally-located major mental health facility”, but he has no idea of the location.
They say this is a reactive government rather than a pro-active one since it always tries to close the door after the horse has bolted.
Some observers are saying that after four years in office Deyalsignh now realises that the St Ann’s Hospital is 117 years old.
He said the Ministry of Health has been discussing a new decentralization plan for mental health two years now but has not said where the new facility will be housed.
He said the new hospital will be supported by various satellite facilities. Pure wishful thinking.
Psychiatrist Dr Varma Deyalsingh questioned where those facilities would be located, saying there would be concerns from residents of communities about the potential erratic behaviour of psychiatric patients.
Deyalsingh said if mental health is to be destigmatized, the centres should not only be placed in regular areas but also in “so-called upscale areas.”
Some are suggesting that Deyalsingh put one of the mental health hospitals in his constituency and another in Dr Rowley’s Diego Martin West constituency, probably very close to their homes.
